Taking the drama out of chewing gum removal

There's nothing like a nasty wad of the sticky stuff to ruin a nice evening out. From cinemas and theatres to casinos, nowhere is safe. Live performances, at theatres or concert halls, or a trip to see a blockbuster at the cinema are some of life's great pleasures. And no-one wants their experience ruined by a sticky mass of gum on their favourite dress, bag or pair of shoes. Gum gets everywhere -  it can unintentionally fall out of the mouths of patrons or, more often than not, is stuck under a seat or spat on the floor if no bin is in sight.

A movie-goer who finds gum stuck somewhere is not a happy customer and therefore may not return; choosing instead to find a cinema where gum-removal is taken more seriously.

What makes gum removal in cinemas more pressing than in other businesses is that after each screening, another group of customers arrives to enjoy another movie. Most cinemas hurriedly engage in quick carpet cleaning and sweeping and stain removal is reserved for when there is more time.

Chewing gum, however, is another story. If the chewing gum is not taken care of immediately, an unwitting customer may sit or step in it, leaving them rightly upset that the cinema has not been cleaned properly before they arrived. And to make matters worse, the gum may be tracked all over the cinema, leaving carpet stains and a sticky trail wherever the unlucky patron treads.
